Exciting March events await in the Mother City

05 March 2025

Africa’s premier cycle event, the Mother City’s colourful celebration of creativity, a dynamic mix of sports action and a line-up of musical performances will keep Capetonians entertained this month.

The City’s Events Permit Office will monitor 109 events set to take place in March, covering a host of categories.

‘March is one of the biggest months for events in Cape Town, with a combined attendance of around 270 000 people. This month, we are continuing an excellent trend of events this summer. Not only are they bringing visitors to our city, whose spend contributes to job creation, but they also underscore Cape Town’s reputation as a premier tourism destination. We would like to express our gratitude to the event organisers for their trust in Cape Town as a host destination, the residents and visitors who continue to support these events and the City’s Events Coordination Committee who work with all stakeholders to take care of logistics and ensure these events happen safely,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Athlone Stadium will have a busy week, hosting football and rugby matches a few days apart.

Cape Town City FC will be looking to get its Betway Premiership season back on track when the local team faces TS Galaxy on Wednesday, 5 March 2025.

The game kicks off at 19:30 and forms part of the #FreeFootballforAll initiative, a partnership between Cape Town City FC and the City of Cape Town.

The campaign is aimed at providing match access to local football fans. The first 10 000 fans have free access to Cape Town City home games played at Athlone Stadium. Spectators can collect tickets from Cape Town City FC’s offices, at 54 Shortmarket Street on Greenmarket Square during the week of the game or at the ticket booth at the Athlone Stadium on game day.

On Friday and Saturday, Athlone will host round two of the HSBC Sevens Challenger.

The Sevens Challenger features 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams, including the Springbok Women’s Sevens, competing for a chance to play for an HSBC SVNS Play Off spot in Los Angeles.

The Bok Women’s Sevens will play Samoa at 15:11 and Poland at 18:52 on Friday. Knockout games to decide the title winners are scheduled for Saturday, 8 March.

Tickets are available through Quicket for as little as R20.

On Sunday, 9 March, around 30 000 cyclists will take on the three routes of the world’s largest-timed cycle race from the Grand Parade and Fish Hoek. The 47th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, setting off from 06:00, will circle the Cape Peninsula before finishing in Green Point.

Multi award-winning artist and composer Mandisi Dyantyis will draw the curtain on a busy week of events with a soulful performance under the shadow of Table Mountain.

With a blend of Afro-soul and jazz fusion, Dyantyis will mesmerise crowds at the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts on Sunday, 9 March.

Gates at Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden open at 16:00 with the concert starting at 17:30.

Tickets for the concert are available through Webtickets. Free entry for children under six.
